Guernsey Finance today announces the appointment of a dedicated Business Development Representative for the Insurance Sector.
William Lewis has worked in the insurance market for over 44 years, where he has acquired a broad range of knowledge across the sector, including the formation of Protected Cell Companies (PCCs) and extensive interaction with the Guernsey regulator. He also has experience dealing with UK and Lloyd’s regulators, has previously been the director of a Lloyd’s members’ agent and of a Bermudan Special Purpose Insurer. William currently holds a position as director of a Guernsey PCC and is a research analyst at Hampden Agencies, both of which he will retain alongside his appointment with Guernsey Finance.
“Overall, my career has enabled me to gain a very broad and extensive knowledge of the global insurance and reinsurance markets, as well as an excellent understanding of what Guernsey has to offer, from captives to PCCs,” he said. “I’m really excited to be joining Guernsey Finance through this innovative initiative, and to bring benefit to Guernsey’s economy.”
This is the first time a sector-specific Business Development Representative has been appointed, with objectives directed by both Guernsey Finance and the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA).
This new appointment represents a step-change in the way the agency works in partnership with industry to achieve their shared goal of promoting and connecting Guernsey’s specialist financial services industry to the wider world.
“Through discussions with GIIA we recognised that the insurance sector would benefit from having a dedicated business representative, as it is unlike the other specialist financial services sectors that we have here in Guernsey,” said Guernsey Finance Chief Executive, Rupert Pleasant. “We are thrilled to have taken this opportunity to work together with industry to now warmly welcome William on board, along with his wealth of experience in the insurance sector.”
GIIA Chair, Mark Elliott, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Guernsey Finance on this initiative. Taking this opportunity for industry and the promotional body to work in tandem helps us both achieve our shared goal of promoting and connecting Guernsey’s specialist financial services industry to the wider world, ultimately benefitting the local economy.”
