GIFA Academy Event: Cyber Security Panel Event

Cyber security is a fast moving and complex subject and is considered by many to be one of the key risks faced by financial service businesses today. Attend our panel event and hear our experts demystify cyber security and help you understand the risks faced by businesses and you in the workplace.

Our panel, see bios below, has been selected by design to consider all aspects of cyber security from legal, IT and data protection and it is set up to be an interesting and useful session. The topics we plan to cover include:

  • Main cyber risks for Guernsey businesses
  • How to manage cyber risk
  • The board’s role
  • The employees’ role
  • GFSC’s expectations
  • Compliance vs security
  • What to do when there is a cyber incident

Panellists:

Sean Cheong
Sean is an English solicitor and Guernsey advocate by training.  Until the end of 2020,  she was partner of Collas Crill, an offshore law firm, based in the Guernsey office. Sean practised as a corporate and finance lawyer for over 25 years, and headed up the banking and finance practice. She worked in the firm’s Singapore and Jersey offices for brief periods.

Bruce McDougall
Bruce is a Governance Director and Senior Cyber and Information Security Consultant at Black Arrow. He has several leading qualifications in cyber security as well as in HR and Finance. Bruce was previously Head of Cyber Security, Governance, Metrics and Reporting at HSBC where he reported to the Group Board in London and Hong Kong.

Grant Hamilton
Grant is an Information Security Consultant at Alternative Solutions where he provides security-based consultancy to a broad range of clients. He has worked in IT since graduating at a mixture of small and large institutions. He is a fully qualified Sun engineer and has completed his MCSA.

Rachel Masterton
Rachel is the Deputy Data Protection Commissioner at the Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA).  She provides oversight for the ODPA’s regulatory and enforcement functions as well as contributing to strategic planning, development and governance. Previously as the Data Protection Officer for local law enforcement, Rachel has gained the ISEB Certificate in Data Protection and invaluable hands-on experience of dealing with data protection issues ‘at the coalface’. In June 2018, Rachel was awarded an LLM in Information Rights Law and Practice with her final dissertation entitled ‘Leaving the EU: the data protection implications of a ‘Hard Brexit’ for UK businesses with EU data flows and clients.

Colin Vaudin
Colin Vaudin is the founder of Signal Consulting focusing on Strategy, Transformation and Security.  Previously he was the CIO of the States of Guernsey for 7 years including responsibility for Bailiwick Cyber Policy and the States internal cyber activities.  Prior to that he was an Army Officer for 23 years in a variety of roles.
