The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), in collaboration with global professional services firm Aon, Lloyd’s Disaster Risk Facility and the Centre for Disaster Protection, has announced a pioneering approach to disaster response that will ensure swift and agile support is available when a disaster occurs. The transaction has been completed through a Guernsey SPV which is managed by Aon Insurance Managers, and uses other Guernsey vehicles in its structure.   Aon Guernsey MD Paul Sykes hailed the achievement as “Guernsey insurance industry’s finest hour yet, because it will allow the Red Cross, potentially, to reach an additional 6 million vulnerable people each year.

Day two of Sustainable Finance Week focused on natural capital and biodiversity. A keynote address from Dr Gemma Cranston, Executive Director of climate change investment and advisory firm Pollination Group, focused on the fact that the human race simply cannot exist without nature. She reminded the audience that nature is underpinned by biodiversity, and while it is priceless, we need to value it more in our economy.

The fourth edition of Guernsey Finance's Sustainable Finance Week kicked off with a keynote address from environmentalist and financier Ben Goldsmith, who reminded the audience: “There is a mystery in our connection with nature which has been lost on us, until we are bereaved or we are ill or we have some existential moment and then we suddenly find that nature is a lot more important to us than we thought.”  Two panel sessions tackling the opportunities arising from net zero commitments in the insurance and funds sectors followed, with the Dignitary Address delivered by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission's Co-Director of Authorisations and Innovation Division, Alison Gavey.     If you missed the afternoon, here's our round-up of some of the key themes discussed throughout the sessions.
