Effective philanthropy – key takeaways

WE ARE GUERNSEY’s latest research paper, ‘Effective Philanthropy: Trends and structures in global giving’, draws on research by Philanthropy Impact, Guernsey Finance and Family Capital. Its aim is to examine the range of structures and vehicles on offer to assist HNWs and their families to solve the issues that they care about.
Launched in May 2022 to a select group of philanthropy professionals, the event included a panel discussion comprised of key players in the global philanthropy sector.

Endless Opportunities in Technology – Funds Forum key takeaways, Panel Session 2

“Endless opportunities” was the upbeat theme of WE ARE GUERNSEY’S 2022 Funds Forum, with two panels exploring how sustainability and technology will help drive the post-pandemic economic recovery globally.
Keynote speaker, renowned economist, author and broadcaster Dharshini David, concluded her scene-setting address where she assessed how we arrived at where we are now, specifically in terms of the global economic picture on an optimistic note saying: “Out of crisis comes innovation – there is light at the end of the tunnel.” 
Dharshini’s speech set the scene for a panel discussion that saw experts demystify some common misunderstandings about technologies such as artificial intelligence and explore the role technology can play in financial services.

A new era

Guernsey is aiming to put itself at the forefront of sustainable investment, consolidating its early wins in the environmental and governance space to make it a leading jurisdiction for ESG investment.
That was the message from Gillian Browning, Director of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission’s Investment, Fiduciary and Pension Division at the at the 2022 Guernsey Funds Forum on Thursday.
“Guernsey hopes it will be at the leading edge of the sustainable and social investment agenda,” she said.

Guernsey Finance and GIIA recruiting for dedicated insurance Business Representative

Guernsey Finance and the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA) are looking to appoint a dedicated Business Development Representative for the Insurance Sector.
The move represents a step-change in the way the agency works in partnership with industry to achieve their shared goal of promoting and connecting Guernsey’s specialist financial services industry to the wider world.
It will be the first time that a sector-specific Business Development Representative will be appointed with objectives directed by both Guernsey Finance and GIIA to ensure they meet industry’s requirements.

Guernsey proposes world leading Natural Capital Fund Regime

Guernsey’s specialist financial services sector is celebrating yet another world first that will fortify its global reputation as a leader in sustainable finance.
Guernsey’s Financial Services Commission has published two consultation papers proposing the introduction of what could be the world’s first Natural Capital Fund regime accompanied by further guidance to guard against greenwashing.  
Once introduced, the regime will build on the success of Guernsey’s world-leading position in sustainable finance by creating a fund regime to help channel investment into biodiversity and natural capital projects.
